Todd & Rosie Boorman are among our most favorite wine making people in all of Southern California! Boorman Vineyards is located on the Santa Rosa Plateau, at the south end of the Santa Margarita Mountains, just before they drop down into the De Luz/Fallbrook area(the La Cresta Estates area, up Clinton Keith Road, on the west side, overlooking the Temecula Valley). Their high quality fruit, estate vineyards, established in the early '90's, sit at an elevation of 2000 feet, in mountainous, decomposed granite soil, which is very conducive to growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Accomplishing the production of the finest red wines in all of Southern California, in our opinion, by using state of the art equipment, along with the perfect blend of French & American Oak barrels. A very efficient production facility with attention to quality , and small - lot fermentations, make it possible to have the unique and desired control not seen in large scale "big guy" wineries. Looking into the future, Boorman Vineyards is excited and challenged by an ever growing marketplace that is getting increasingly more difficult for the "little guy" to find room, but have met this challenge by producing elegant wines, while remaining a small, hand-crafted winery, with attention to quality and detail. Winemaker Todd Boorman says, "I believe the people of So Cal deserve nothing less than outstanding wine, and we're here to make sure that is exactly what they get!"
Well, wine mega-retailer Bev Mo! agrees, since four of Boorman's wines can be found in their So Cal stores, and, of course, all their wines are here for purchase online at STW. Additionally, our good friends, veteran wine writers Monty & Sara Preiser(Boca Rotan News, So Florida Biz Journal, The Preiser Key to Napa Valley Restaurants & Wineries, commentators on WineCountryTalkRadio), had this to say, after their visit to Boorman's : "It seems to us that no winery within hundreds of miles can touch the mature, Napa-like quality of Boorman Estate Winery and Vineyards, owned by Todd and Rosie Boorman. Sitting high above the valley and avoiding the fog that envelops much of the balance of the region, the grapes at Boorman have an opportunity to ripen in the long hours of sunlight, and then be fashioned into serious wine by Todd's use of the most up to date techniques. We enjoyed each wine we sampled, such as the 2005 Barbera from the Santa Barbara Plateau ($26) [chocolate and cherries with a long finish]; and the 2004 South Coast Merlot ($24) [full mouth with some terroir on the finish]. However, we loved the 2004 Cabernet Franc ($30) [red berries pervading layers of fruit leading to dark cocoa]; the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon ($29) [dark cherry and plumbs with soft tannins and lingering chocolate quite a value]; the 2002 Metaphor ($40) [heavy mouthful of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petite Verdot]; and the 2003 Petite Verdot ($26) [showcasing black grapes and blueberries]. When you are in this area, Boorman demands a visit (even it you have to go out of your way).
